Welcome to our paradise,
Two floors down from heaven,
In the bowls of the earth.

The Great Ice
Four moons of darkness

They survived. The Great Ice had ended. After four long moons of winter, the sun had broke through the clouds and was melting the cold earth, reshaping it. The humans are gone. They were unable to accept the massive changes required to survive. But, the packs did not get out unscaved. They lost their way, their history, their heralds. In the first moons of the great ice they all died away, reclaimed by the earth. Many others fallowed them. One pack was smeared from the face of the planet. Broken apart. Leaving only three more. The Aiaran, Rylor, and the Loikiv, who soon broke apart themselves. In the time when wolves needed the support of their packs, their families, they were on their own. For two more months they suffered, lost in a world of darkness and snow. Blind by death and lost hope. Though, hope could not have saved them from freezing or starving to death in a land with no warmth, and almost no prey. Only death could have taken the pain away. It did for many.
The first rays of sun broke through over fifty years ago, to the new generation. To all others it feels like only yesterday. The packs returned, reformed. Many at a time, one still remained after the first year. Ai, named after the great pack before them, fallowing the ways of the Air Herald. Two long dreadful winters passed after the great ice before another pack lasted. The Juls, who are now called the Ryl, after they adopted the ways taught by the Water Herald. For five long winters, they were the only packs, then, another formed from the shadows. The Loik, founded by a son of a Loikiv beta, named for his fathers pack, founded under the ways of the Fire Herald. Even today, no others have formed. The packs soon began to fear the reincarnation of their heralds had stopped. They all asumed that the spirits had shunned them as they had the humans. But, some luck smiled down upon them in the next generations, they began to change.
The Tales of Greatness
The power of the Heralds

The Heralds, so stories tell, are the sons and daughters of the elements. Eached started with the spirits becoming weaker and weaker, looking for some way to become more than just ruthless forces. So, the Heralds were born. A pup from each pack was chosen by a spirit, and marked. Their blood mixed with the powers of the spirit. Marked by a pure color pelt, and a star somewhere on them that signifies their alliance to the spirits. They were the first wolves. They formed the packs. Their gifts were passed down to other wolves. But, it was not a full element control. Nor was it always the Heralds control of elements. Sometimes, it was their slow aging, somethings, their stength, and others their dreams prodicting the future. Though all the powers passed down geneticly were dilluted. They were there. Some wolves, who mated with others with special mutations, created offspring who were stronger or who had two mutations. But, change has a funny way with the wolves.
The New Generation
Shunned into the shadows

The New generation. A generation like no other. No one really knows where they started. Most believe it was the humans. Playing god as they often did. Inhancing the genetics of normal wolves until they came up with the new generation. Or something close. Nature did the rest. They were held by the humans until the humans died away. Then, they excaped during the last months of the great ice, mixing with others. Breeding, changing. Adapting to a world they were not welcomed into normaly. It was only recently they became known to the pack wolves. They were quickly shunned. Only a few packs welcomed some in. Very few. Most either joined the lone wolves, or joined the two packs formed only for new generation wolves. Tensions continue to rise as land become scarce, pups are lost, star crossed lovers meet, and the next generation, the first after the great ice, of heralds are born to the packs. One doomed to walk the lands of the loners. They will not realize how much the world has change until they have fully grown. But, they will not like what they see when they do.
